Today, November 15, we celebrate in Portugal the National Day of Portuguese Sign Language.
On this day, there are many initiatives to educate the population and make more accessible some media.
Sign language changes from country to country, being produced with hand movements, facial expressions and our body.
The first school for the deaf was established in the seventeenth century, in Paris, so we can consider that the French sign language is the oldest sign language in the world.
In Portugal, the Portuguese Sign Language, appeared in 1823 in the Casa Pia de Lisboa with the creation of the first school for deaf Portuguese.

Hoje, dia 15 de novembro, comemora-se em Portugal o Dia
Nacional da Língua
Gestual Portuguesa.
Neste dia muitas são as iniciativas para educar mais a
população e tornar mais acessível alguns meios de comunicação.
A linguagem
gestual muda de país para país, sendo produzida com movimentos das mãos, corpo
e expressões faciais.
A
primeira escola de surdos foi criada no século XVII, em Paris,
portanto podemos considerar que a linguagem gestual francesa é a língua gestual
mais antiga do mundo.
Em
Portugal, a Língua Gestual Portuguesa, surge em 1823 na Casa Pia de
Lisboa com a criação da primeira escola de surdos portuguesa.
